Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Announces Vision for the Future

AKRON, Ohio, March 1, 2010 – Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital is pleased to announce it’s poised for new growth as its Board of Directors has developed a vision for the future. This vision was developed after much discussion and research into the needs of the surrounding communities.

To meet the evolving needs of our citizens, Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital’s vision is that we will:

• Focus on adult medical and surgical care
• Expand our expertise in cardiology, orthopedics and senior services.
• Be known for our expertise in geriatric healthcare, including wellness care.
• Continue to provide convenient, high-quality inpatient and outpatient services.

The Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Board of Directors has approved a multi-million dollar expansion plan to implement the vision. The project will increase the number of intensive care beds and the number of operating rooms. It will also expand cardiac services and add physician office space in Founders Hall.

Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital is also actively working with elected officials to secure public sector funds for the potential expansion of the Emergency Department to accommodate patient volume that has nearly doubled since the ED opened in 1996. The hospital will also consider renovations to the two acute units to create private rooms.

Summa Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital’s vision means that it will remain an important part of the community and continue to provide for the healthcare needs of its citizens long into the future.
